While most of us our housewives I'm wondering if we all have the same definitions of what a housewife should do, what are her responsibilities?
I'd love to know all of your different definitions.
My definition is taking care of the home and family while the hubby works. Well that's my definition in a nut shell. :) What is your definition of a housewife?
My definition is basically: taking care of as much of the home life as possible while hubby is at work. When he gets home, we share most duties but I try to minimize evening chores so we can spend time together, play with the kiddo, and catch up on our day.
This entails managing the finances and figuring out ways to save (coupons, making stuff myself, etc). Handling any service calls or repairmen we need. Cleaning, shopping, cooking from scratch as much as possible, and generally trying to maintain some semblance of order for myself and my family. I also take care of things like car inspections and scheduling doctor and dentist appointments. But the most important thing that I feel that I do is provide a well-rounded, positive environment for our 2 year-old. All that other stuff can get put on hold if he's sick or having a bad day.
I also make sure that I am feeling well and happy and productive. As I like to say, "If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."
My definition of a housewife is as follows: a housewife should keep her home tidy and neat, raise her children with manners and moral values, budget for the household if necessary, fill her house with love and joy, enjoy entertaining with friends and family, participate within her community/ church, and always try to look her best for her husband as well as for herself. A housewife is not always defined by things she does but by the people who love her. Now I know not all of things are achieved everyday cause we are not perfect, but it's nice to set goals and succeed.
I think it depends on couples: I take care of most of the baking, cooking and cleaning, while DH does the heavy duty jobs and loves to cook occasionally. I take care of bill paying and budgeting, and food shopping, although sometimes, we do it together!
